We were having so much fun herding with Chilko that when we started looking for another dog, we were especially interested in lines with proven stock handling capability.  Peggy Richter has been breeding generations of Belgian sheepdogs primarily for their herding traits. Rogue is trialing at the intermediate level in the AKC and AHBA herding programs, but he’s been mostly just helping manage our little flock for the last couple of years. So far, the peak of Rogue’s herding career was a 2010 large flock French course trial  in Lancaster, CA where Rogue went reserve high-in-trial on Friday, followed up by high-in-trial on Saturday!  Rogue has also worked as conservation detector dog, trained to search for rare species of plants and animals such as Kincaid’s lupine, nests of Swainson’s thrush, and western pond turtles.  His work has been featured on Oregon Field Guide, The Nature Conservancy website, as well as many magazine and newspaper stories.  In his spare time, Rogue competed in agility and went to the 2012 AKC National Agility Championship, where he placed 30th among a field of 80 top ranked 24″ dogs.  Rogue has some talented offspring in Canada and the U.S. competing in conformation, obedience, rally and agility.  Photo Credit: Jen Newlin
