Purchasing an Obsidian Puppy

The dogs we are now using in our breeding program are descended from inter-variety lines of Belgian shepherds primarily selected for protection and performance traits. They tend to be more vigilant and impulsive than the typical Belgian sheepdog bred in the US. These are the types of dogs we prefer to work with because of their resiliency and excellent handler engagement. Most of our Groenendaels have Tervuren and Malinois in their pedigree, so our litters sometimes include brown, long-hair puppies.

For these reasons, we strongly prefer to place our puppies with buyers already active in K9 work or sports. We will consider placing a pup with a buyer wanting a companion dog. However, buyers without advanced training experience must agree to work with a professional trainer for at least one year. Our dogs can make easy companions as adults, but they need a lot of work to get them through adolescence.

Here is an excellent description of the difference between working line and show lines–
