A family of Belgian shepherds shaped by generations of exceptional ancestors
We have been involved with Belgian Shepherds since 2001 when we adopted a purebred Belgian sheepdog named Chilko. One dog led to another. Since then the dogs we have owned and trained have earned more than 175 titles, awards, and certifications in competition obedience, agility, tracking, ring sport, search and rescue, and herding.
Our first Obsidian puppies were whelped in 2011. Since then we have raised 8 more litters. Our breeding program now focuses on inter-variety, working line Groenendaels. We occasionally get a brown, fluffy puppy in a litter, but they are still registered as Belgian sheepdogs under AKC rules (Crazy, right?). Although the dogs we produce all have long coats, many of them are more than 50% Malinois according to genetic testing.
All the dogs used in our breeding program have had hip & elbow x-rays, eye exams and genetic testing. Our puppies will have their first vet exam and vaccinations, been microchipped and will have hundreds of hours of socialization before they are placed in their next home.
We prefer to sell our puppies to experienced dog trainers who are still active in sport or search and rescue. Occasionally we have puppies that are better suited to someone looking for a companion dog. Every person who buys an Obsidian pup is expect to stay in touch with us during the course of the dog’s life. Only through regular reports from owners can we understand if we are achieving our goals for the Obsidian breeding program.
